In honor of Alien Day, a brand new video game set within the beloved sci-fi/horror franchise has been announced. What’s more, this game will be more of an immersive experience as Alien: Rogue Incursion is going to be released later this year in VR. So yes, if you’ve ever wanted to experience the horrors of running from Xenomorphs in virtual reality, now is your time to shine. Check out the teaser trailer for yourself.
Admittedly, the trailer isn’t giving us much to go on but the initial pan down does recall the credits of Ridley Scott’s original Alien, which just returned to theaters. We then cut to a Xenomorph hovering over a planet with some poor soul there left to deal with the deadly alien by themselves (presumably). The game hails from the folks at Survious, who are working with 20th Century Games. As for what players will be doing? A brief description of the game reads as follows:
“Alien: Rogue Incursion fully immerses players in a harrowing VR journey deep into the Alien universe with an all-new storyline of an ultimate mission that tests their courage, wits, and skill to survive the terrors of the ‘Perfect Organism.’”
The game is due to arrive for the PlayStation VR2, PCVR via Steam, and Meta Quest 3. The company promises that it will be here in time for the holiday season. Fans can wishlist the game for the PlayStation VR2 now. TQ Jefferson, Chief Product Officer at Survios, had this to say about the game:
“Our team at Survios are huge fans of Alien and have been building Alien: Rogue Incursion for a long time, honing our ability to pair the most technically advanced, immersive, and engaging VR experiences with best-in-class franchises. This fully original story embraces all our favorite elements from 45 years of Alien, from kinetic action and heart-pounding exploration to our terrifyingly resourceful Xenomorphs that will truly make your skin crawl. We can’t wait for fans to get their hands on it this holiday season.”
20th Century Studios, under Disney’s leadership, has been trying to do more with the Alien franchise in recent years, particularly in the gaming space. Last year saw the release of the team-based shooter Aliens: Dark Descent. That followed in the footsteps of another shooter, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, which was first released in 2021. So, even if VR isn’t your thing, this is an area that will be invested in more heavily in the future, it seems.
Alien: Rogue Incursion doesn’t have a firm release date but it is due to arrive in late 2024. Stay tuned.
