Even though precious little is known about the film, Warner Bros. and Ryan Coogler are moving full-steam ahead on his very mysterious, currently untitled horror movie. The project first came to light in January, with WB winning the rights to the film in an intense bidding war. Now, we have word that Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye, Pitch Perfect) is joining the ever-growing ensemble cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steinfeld has signed on for an unspecified role in the film, which Coogler wrote and will direct. Plot details remain completely elusive, but it is set to begin filming this month in New Orleans. Jordan, who previously worked with Coogler on Black Panther and Creed, is rumored to be playing twins. It’s also believed that the movie will take place in the Jim Crow-era South, with vampires involved. Again, none of this has been officially confirmed, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. It is currently being vaguely described as a “supernatural thriller.”

Steinfeld has been rising on Hollywood’s A-list for some time. Recently, she’s been spending a lot of time in the Marvel universe, appearing on the Disney+ show Hawkeye as Kate Bishop, reprising that role in last year’s The Marvels as well. She also voices Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Some of her other notable credits include True Grit and the 2018 Transformers spin-off Bumblebee. This will be her first role in an out-and-out horror movie.

The actress joins a cast that is filling out very nicely. We recently learned that Delroy Lindo (The Harder They Fall, Da 5 Bloods) has signed on for a role, with Jack O’Connell (Ferrari) and Wunmi Mosaku (Lovecraft Country) also on board.

Warner Bros. seems to be going all-in on this one. They made a unique deal with Coogler, allowing him to regain some of the rights to the movie itself after a number of years. They also outbid many other studios in town, though the price they paid has yet to be revealed. It’s not hard to see why though. Coogler directed one of the highest-grossing movies of all time with Black Panther after rebooting the Rocky franchise very successfully with Creed. He’s got a golden touch and critics love his stuff. That’s a rare combination.

Ryan Coogler’s untitled horror movie is currently set to hit theaters on March 7, 2025. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as more details come our way.
