THE GAME Has Been Resurrected By Fans

If there’s one eternal truth in horror, it’s that slasher icons are pretty much impossible to kill. Burn them, fill them with bullets, reboot them, take down their servers. It doesn’t matter! They will find a way back. Case in point, a group of dedicated fans has found a way to resurrect Friday the 13th: The Game, which is no longer available for purchase and is soon going to be unplayable for anyone who owns it. But a modded version of the game called Friday the 13th: The Game – Resurrected seeks to change all of that – and we’ve got a teaser for it! Check it out.

The pitch here is that this dedicated group of fans is releasing a version of the 2017 game that will take everything that fans loved about it and add even more to it. They are going to add more character skins, more in-game content and update it regularly after launch. It will be available on PC at first but they hope to make it available on console at a later date. The problem with the original game is that licensing issues got in the way and, ultimately, Gun Media had to stop adding new content before they eventually lost the license altogether. The company has since moved onto The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game, which recently added horror icon Barbara Crampton

Everything from the base version of Friday the 13th: The Game will be included in Resurrected. The group will also be hosting their own servers, so they won’t be relying on an outside company to make it function. The creators also say that players won’t need the base game to enjoy their mod. The download will be available on their Discord server, which you can find right here. While there might be some copyright issues to skirt here, not charging for the mod is a way to help ensure that it can move forward as planned.

The official servers for the original game are going offline in December. So those who wanted to enjoy participating in Jason murdering young people at Camp Crystal Lake either as the machete-wielding slasher or a camp counselor were running low on time. This mod is going to help preserve the game for horror fans of the future to enjoy. It’s an admirable love letter to the franchise and the game itself. The team is planning to reveal the game’s launch date on April 15, so mark your calendars.

On the official side of things, it appears as though the servers are being shut down on the old game because a new Friday the 13th game is in the works. Details on that project have remained elusive but it makes every bit of sense that the powers that be would want to further capitalize on Jason’s good name.

The Friday the 13th: The Game – Resurrected release date announcement is set for April 15, so stay tuned.
