XYZ Films has released a brand new trailer for All You Need is Death. The Irish folk horror flick hails from the mind of writer/director Paul Duane (Very Extremely Dangerous, Best Before Death). The VOD and theatrical release is just around the corner, with the film due to arrive next month for your viewing pleasure. If you’re wondering whether or not this one needs to go on the ol’ watch list, this trailer should be of service. Check it out.
The trailer is a little tough to get a grip on at first. It’s setting a tone more than anything, and it’s all very Irish. But once we get to the meat and potatoes of it all, which has to do with a young coupler on the hunt for a song, things start to gel a bit more. There’s an awful lot of creepy imagery with very little context, making it all the more intriguing. The official synopsis for the film reads as follows:
“All You Need is Death tells the story of a young couple who are part of a mysterious, secret organization that travels at night with the desire to discover forbidden knowledge. They believe that living, modern alchemy is contained in old, forgotten songs. When they find a mysterious elderly woman who sings songs that have never been heard before, they open the door to ancient evil and madness.”
Fango debuted an exclusive, ominous poster for the film last year, which you can check out right here. The movie has been making the rounds on the festival circuit ahead of its upcoming release, holding its premiere at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles, followed by an Irish Premiere at Cork International Film Festival. In an interview with Film In Dublin last year, Duane explained that viewers won’t get a lot of jump scares or gore with this one. So, what can viewers expect? Here’s how he explained it:
“I’m a huge fan of films that privilege atmosphere over plot. I’m less interested in films that are scare machines, that are there to make you jump every five minutes, so people who go to the film expecting a lot of jump scares and gore are going to be disappointed. What it does, I think, and what people seem to enjoy from the feedback we’re getting is that it’s tremendously creepy, atmospheric, mysterious. All You Need Is Death puts you into a very unfamiliar world, it’s much more a cosmic horror vibe of creepiness, it’s more about getting under your skin than it is about jump scares or gore.”
The cast includes Olwen Fouéré (Mandy, Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Charlie Maher (Blue Lights), Simone Collins (The Last Duel) and Gary Whelan (The Contract).
All You Need is Death arrives in theaters and on VOD on April 11.
