The Outlast Trials: The Murkoff Collections, a comic book tie-in to The Outlast Trials, had its first issue released last week. Now developer Red Barrels has released the second issue of the two-part digital comic book series written by J.T. Petty, the scriptwriter for both Outlast games and comics, and illustrated by GMB Chomichuk.
For those not up on the series’ lore, the Murkoff Corporation uses science and cutting-edge psychotherapy to “promote liberty, prosperity, and the strength of free markets around the world.” The Murkoff Collections Department in particular searches for assets, subjects, and techniques potentially useful to the organization, especially in the buildup of the potentially revolutionary Sinyala Facility.
This second issue focuses on Phylis Futterman, aka Mother Gooseberry. Like the first issue’s Leland Coyle, Mother Gooseberry is an Ex-Pop, and one of the antagonists in The Outlast Trials. She is a disgraced, mentally unstable children’s show host suffering from psychosis. Gooseberry’s alternative personality manifests in the form of her ventriloquist duck puppet, Doctor Futterman, a crude avatar of her abusive father.
As Red Barrels had mentioned when the first issue was released, depending on the community response, more issues of The Outlast Trials: The Murkoff Collections could be created.
The Outlast Trials is currently available in Early Access on PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game is expected to arrive on consoles in 2024.
