One of the hot new horror movies on our radar for the second half of 2023 is director Bishal Dutta’s It Lives Inside, which NEON is releasing in theaters on September 22.
This week, It Lives Inside has officially been rated PG-13 for…
“Terror, violent content, bloody images, brief strong language and teen drug use.”
Meagan Navarro wrote in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “It Lives Inside introduces a bold new voice, creating a captivating new spin on demonic horror.”
Megan Suri (“Never Have I Ever,” Missing), Neeru Bajwa (Jatt & Juliet 1 & 2), Mohana Krishnan, Vik Sahay (Captain Marvel, “Chuck”) and Betty Gabriel (Get Out) star.
In It Lives Inside, “Sam is desperate to fit in at school, rejecting her Indian culture and family to be like everyone else. When a mythological demonic spirit latches onto her former best friend, she must come to terms with her heritage in order to defeat it.”
The initial inspiration for the film emerged from the filmmaker’s own childhood experience of being born in India before emigrating to be raised in America. The story draws heavily on both Indian demonic legend and a very personal family story from Dutta’s grandfather. The original screenplay was penned by Dutta based on a story by Dutta and Ashish Mehta.
Raymond Mansfield and Sean McKittrick of QC Entertainment produced, with NEON, Edward H. Hamm Jr, Jameson Parker, Arielle Voisvert, and Shawn Williamson executive producing.
