After teasing fans on Twitter last week regarding “The Final Transmission” DLC for The Callisto Protocol, Striking Distance Studios and publisher Krafton have revealed more about the upcoming story content over at PlayStation Blog. The upcoming DLC, which drops on June 27 for PlayStation owners (June 29 for Xbox and PC), includes new story content, a new weapon, and new Biophage threats.

The story for “The Final Transmission” takes place after the main story for The Callisto Protocol, and sees Jacob still having to contend with the virus that’s been wreaking havoc inside Black Iron. It’s now threatening to escape the prison, and it’s up to you to retrieve Mahler’s data and transmit it off-world in order to prevent another disaster.

Obviously, things aren’t so simple. The Biophage are still very much lurking in the facility, and with the new threats, you’ll need some new weaponry. Enter the Kinetic Hammer, a new melee weapon that packs a devastating attack. According to Lead Systems Designer Paul Guirao, mastering the heavy charged mechanic with the Kinetic Hammer can be tricky, but “you become the ultimate badass once you’ve mastered it. It’s one of our favorite weapons because it obliterates everything it touches.”

Speaking of the new threats, players will have to contend with the Biophage Robot. The melding of Biophage and machinery, the Biophage Robots provide more of The Callisto Protocol‘s “in-your-face style of combat” while also demanding that players adopt new strategies to defeat them.

Of course, there’s another threat in the end boss that Striking Distance is keeping secret for now. “Our goal was to showcase the Kinetic Hammer’s power and make players strategize on the best ways to beat the boss; deciding when to use melee or ranged attacks and utilizing the arena to their advantage,” explains Senior Systems Designer Quinlan Richards. “We’ve given the boss similar mechanics as Jacob, switching seamlessly between hard-hitting melee and aggressive ranged attacks. And to keep things interesting, we’ve given the final boss an ability that goes beyond anything Jacob can do.”

The Callisto Protocol is out now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.
