Sony Pictures is making some last-second changes to their release schedule, now slotting the Sam Raimi-produced horror Umma for a March 18, 2022, release.
It’s a bit of a head-scratcher in that Umma (Korean for “mother”) will open against A24’s hotly-anticipated X, directed by horror favorite Ti West.
However, it’s worth noting that this is likely a quick dump that will make its way to PVOD services within the following weeks.
Umma follows Sandra Oh as Amanda (Oh) and her daughter living (Fivel Stewart) a quiet life on an American farm, but when the remains of her estranged mother arrive from Korea, Amanda becomes haunted by the fear of turning into her own mother.
The cast also includes Dermot Mulroney, Odeya Rush, MeeWha Alana Lee and Tom Yi.
Iris K. Shim wrote the script and will be directing the film.
Umma is also executive produced by André Øvredal (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark)!
In other release date changes, another Sam Raimi project is getting bumped.
Raimi recently teamed with A Quiet Place writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods for 65, an original sci-fi thriller that was set for an April 2022 release.
It will now open in theaters a full year later on April 14, 2023.
The sci-fi thriller, written by Beck and Woods, will also be directed by the duo. It stars Adam Driver, Ariana Greenblatt and Chloe Coleman.
Plot details are firmly under wraps.
