Margot Robbie Set to Star in New ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ from ‘Birds of Prey’ Writer
A new female-fronted take on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is in the works, with THR reporting today that the film is set to re-team the writer and star of DC’s Birds of Prey.
Margot Robbie is attached to star in a Pirates film penned by Christina Hodson.
THR explains, “While plot details are being kept in Davey Jones’ locker, the project, in early development, is not intended to be a spinoff of the long-running franchise that had pirate Jack Sparrow at its center but rather a wholly original story with new characters under the Pirates moniker, itself inspired by the long-running attraction at Disneyland.”
The site also notes that this project is separate from a franchise reboot that’s in the works.
Jerry Bruckheimer is on board to produce both films.
