‘Suspiria’ Filmmaker Luca Guadagnino Directing New Take on ‘Scarface’ Written by the Coen Brothers
Not horror but how can we not mention this?!
The first remake of 1932’s Howard Hawks-directed Scarface was brought to the screen by an incredible team including writer Oliver Stone and director Brian De Palma, and Universal’s new take on the iconic tale has similarly assembled one hell of a creative team.
Deadline reports that Luca Guadagnino (Suspiria) is on board to direct Scarface for Universal, with the most recent draft of the script written by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen!
Earlier drafts were penned by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, Jonathan Herman and Paul Attanasio.
The site notes, “The new movie will be set in Los Angeles.”
Al Pacino starred as Tony Montana in the 1983 version, while Paul Muni played Tony Camonte in the 1932 original. In both films, a man climbs the ladder of success in the criminal underbelly, but his weaknesses prove to be his downfall.
Producers for the new film include Dylan Clark, Scott Stuber, Marco Marabito and Brian Williams.
