It’s pretty much a no-brainer to say that Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man was probably the best superhero game since Batman: Arkham Asylum. And it’s also a given that the demand for a sequel is there, too. And, according to a user on Reddit (grab your salt shaker), the sequel is not only on its way, but the game will be bringing Venom and Carnage along for the ride.
Keep in mind, Utopianthrowaway90’s claims have not been substantiated. Supposedly, the user received this information from their “contact” who’s familiar with the sequel’s development. Also, spoilers for those who haven’t played the game.
Regardless of veracity, the user claims that a Marvel’s Spider-Man sequel will launch in late 2021 on PlayStation 5, with characters like Venom (who will be Harry Osbourne, not Eddie Brock), Carnage, and Mysterio making appearances. The leak also outlines other details, alleging that Insomniac’s follow-up will take place during the winter, five to six months after the first game’s events.
In addition, like the first installment, the new entry will be a singleplayer affair, with no multiplayer components. The game will be expanded to include Queens and Brooklyn this time. To accommodate these areas, Insomniac is implementing new swinging mechanics for “low building traversal.” Miles Morales will return as a playable character for certain sections, again. However, Insomniac continues to toy with the idea of letting players free roam as him. And similar to a mechanic in Arkham Knight, players will be able to switch between Peter and Miles.
Again, none of this has been verified (obviously), nor has there been any talk of a sequel. But, seeing as Marvel’s Spider-Man has become the best-selling superhero game ever (surpassing the Arkham series), it’s kind of a no-brainer to follow it up somehow.
