Rumour: Sony Involved in ‘Silent Hill’ Series Reboot And ‘Silent Hills’ Revival?!

So, you know that rumour about Konami resurrecting Silent Hill with at least two projects? While it may (or may not) turn out that Kojima isn’t involved, according to sources from RelyonHorror, that’s not stopping Konami from not only working on a Silent Hill reboot, but potentially bringing back Silent Hills, as well!

According to the source, Masahiro Ito (creature designer for the first four titles in the series) has returned to work on the Silent Hill project (which had been speculated). The same sources has also named Sony as the ones behind bringing the series back, which could also mean that the titles would be PlayStation 5 exclusives (though nothing is confirmed yet).

Another source has stated that Keiichiro Toyama (director and writer of the 1999 original) and Akira Yamaoka (composer for the majority of the franchise) are also returning alongside Masahiro Ito. The idea is that the group will create a “soft reboot” of the series, possibly just called Silent Hill.

SIE Japan Studio, with team members from “Project Siren,” the group behind Siren: Blood Curse for the PlayStation 3, are apparently behind this new title’s development in some form. This title has apparently been in production for about a year. RelyOnHorror’s second source, independent of the first source, reiterated Ito’s involvement in a new Silent Hill.

And, oh yeah, you know that trailer for a proposed VR version of Silent Hill 2? The first source states that this new Silent Hill title will even make use of the next-gen PlayStation VR headset for PlayStation 5. Allegedly, Sony had pitched the game to Hideo Kojima as a title more akin to a TellTale/Supermassive narrative-driven title, which would offer him “full creative freedom.”

Which brings us to Silent Hills. The revival is not a done deal just yet, and that for now, the only game in active development is the reboot from SIE Japan Studio. Sony is apparently pushing for the series’ comeback, and that Sony and Konami are working together on these titles. There’s no word on if Sony wants to buy the IP outright, if you’re wondering.

Of course, as always, these are all just rumours. But, where there’s smoke…
