If you’re wanting more details on next month’s Resident Evil 3, this month’s Online Xbox Magazine is happy to oblige. The issue has revealed several new details, including one that breaks the series’ norms.

Keep in mind, some of these details contain spoilers, so you’ve been warned!

Anyways, here are the details:

  • It is confirmed Nemesis is able to break into safe rooms when chasing the player. *UPDATE* Capcom issued a clarification that Nemesis will not be able to break into safe rooms.
  • The devs used Mr. X as a way to gather some feedback on Nemesis, though their goal all along was to make Nemesis a more terrifying and tense foe than Mr. X in nearly every way.
  • The classic red explosive barrel returns, bringing with it some strategy: Do you use it immediately on some zombies right now, or save it for later to be able to use it against Nemesis?
  • The first time you down Nemesis, he can drop rare items for you to pick up.
  • The dodge mechanic has some context-sensitive actions Jill can do if you pull off a perfect dodge against specific types of attacks.
  • Certain areas in the game give you an excuse as to why Nemesis can’t follow you, giving you a breather, but one of the main goals of the remake was to make him a consistent threat. Not always chasing you but the possibility he could chase you there stays true.
  • Nemesis’ AI is designed to actually not be relentless. His AI works to dynamically telegraph his moves, and give the player breathing room.
  • Monsters react more to the environment and situations, and can potentially work together or separately, depending upon their numbers.
  • The Grave Digger is confirmed to be in the game. With some potential Tremors-inspired sequences.
  • Spiders are also confirmed to be in the game. They have a tendency to scuttle all over the place, sometimes towards or away from you, or drop on you from the ceiling.
  • Hunter Betas are confirmed to be in the game as well.
  • Raccoon City is a much bigger than it was in Resident Evil 2, with multiple paths.
  • Jill can unlock more pathways in the Subway System to new parts of the city as a form of fast travel.
  • There are a lot more side tasks available to the player, including a weapon that requires you to backtrack in order to obtain it.
  • Carlos is playable and has more playable sequences, but he doesn’t have his own campaign.
  • There may be a couple new monsters in the game that weren’t in the original.
  • Capcom focused on having one consistent story, rather than different ways events could unfold. That said, the devs did a lot to make the story have more depth and stand out. Jill, Nemesis, and the UBSC are more fleshed-out than in the original.
  • As the game takes place a day before and a day after RE2, you may also see some “before and after”.

Resident Evil 3, together with Resident Evil Resistance, heads home April 3 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
