What was originally a rumour announced through leaks this morning has turned into fact for Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us Part II. Originally reported by Kotaku, Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 4-exclusive has had its release date pushed back.

Previously announced for February 21, 2020, The Last of Us Part II will see a May 29th release. The delay is due to what Naughty Dog felt were quality issues.

“[D]uring the last few weeks, as we were closing out sections of the game, that we realised we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality,” explains Neil Druckmann, Creative Director at Naughty Dog. “At this point we were faced with two options: compromise parts of the game or get more time. We went with the latter, and this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team.”

Druckmann laments that the team couldn’t get the game up to their standards in time, but states that the additional time “ensures that The Last of Us Part II lives up to our collective ambition as well as our commitment to the highest level of quality.”
