After several setbacks, including a legal battle with its former publisher, developer Protocol Games is finally releasing its fixed-camera psychological horror game Song of Horror.

On October 31, the first two episodes of the game will be released on Steam, with the rest coming shortly after.

Song of Horror is an eye-catching mix of ideas. It’s a fixed-camera style horror that evokes many a classic title, but it also features permadeath, with every player death resulting in a new protagonist.

The game’s story sees you as the assistant to an editor for a famous writer, tasked with investigating the disappearance of said writer and his family by snooping about their house and looking for clues. The house is naturally home to an evil presence that isn’t up for having visitors. If that assistant does perish during the investigation, then another will repeat the cycle, but carrying on from where they left off.

Song of Horror is for PC only at the moment, but Protocol Games is open to releasing it on consoles if demand is met.
