Less running gag and more “let’s just see where this goes”, id Software’s DOOM has been ported to and played on nearly everything, from digital cameras to MP3 players. And now you can add another to the list in the form of a McDonald’s cash register.
The story goes that a Twitter user by the name of Ry happened upon some old point-of-sale systems that a nearby McDonald’s was tossing, so he took one home, “downloaded ZDoom on it using [his] personal computer, plugged it into the USB in the cash register and ran it through there with auto run.”
While it’s true that these systems are computers, it’s still fun to see Doomguy’s happy face on a machine that was originally used to punch up Happy Meals.
The latest entry in the franchise, DOOM Eternal, hits November 22 for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia.
