Hasbro’s Sci-fi Toy Line ‘Micronauts’ Getting a Film Adaptation from ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Filmmaker
Paramount has been developing a film adaptation of the retro toy line Micronauts, and THR reports that How to Train Your Dragon filmmaker Dean DeBlois will write and direct.
The Micronauts line was put out by Mego from 1976 to 1980, based on and licensed from the Microman toyline from Japanese company Takara. Comics from Marvel followed.
THR notes, “The comics told of a Microverse in which diverse worlds were linked together and in which a power mad dictator named Baron Karza kills the royal family, taking control. A small group of eclectic characters – a pilot awoken from a centuries-long deep sleep, alien gladiators, survivors of the coup – band together to form a resistance.”
The live-action film is said to center on “a group of intergalactic explorers.”
Micronauts is set to be released on June 4, 2021.
