There have been several movies in recent years that play out entirely across computer screens, but none as authentic and compelling as Aneesh Chaganty’s Searching, a brilliant thriller loaded with twists and turns. If you’re asking me, it was one of 2018’s best films, and I’m excited to learn that a sequel is in the works.
Deadline reports that Sony’s Stage 6 Films is developing a sequel to Searching, a film that centered on a father’s (John Cho) quest to find his missing daughter.
The site’s writer, Mike Fleming Jr. notes: “I’m told that the original creative team has been engaged to return and figure all that out.”
Presumably, the sequel will use the same storytelling framework but will likely center on a new storyline and new characters. More details as we learn them.
Searching was a big success story last year, grossing $75 million worldwide. It was also a big hit with critics, with a 92% “Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes.
