You’d have to drag me kicking and screaming to a high school play. Would have. North Bergen High School in New Jersey broke the internet this weekend when footage of their play hit social media. While most would do something like Romeo & Juliet, or maybe even Beauty and the Beast, these kids performed Ridley Scott‘s seminal 1979 sci-fi horror classic Alien in full. The sets and costumes look tremendous and all I could think about while watching is how big of a smile Adam Goldberg must have across his face. I would fly across the country to watch this.
“Our performance of Alien really shows you can do so much with so little,” explained the school’s art teacher Steven Defendini, who also served as the play’s art director, to BuzzFeed News, “and as long as there is a passion there to do these things, they are possible.”
BuzzFeed adds this gem: Alien was the alternative to their annual production of George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead! I went to the wrong high school.
Below is a short video showing the cast in full costume with a handful of Twitter posts that have both video and images from this remarkable performance. Here’s hoping that it generates enough buzz to get it posted online in full!
