Fans of Vertigo Games’ first-person shooter Arizona Sunshine will be interested to know that the company has split off a separate company entitled Vertigo Arcades that will make it easier for VR developers to create arcade versions of their games. Vertigo Arcades will connect VR developers and VR arcades through its VR Arcade Suite, a content launcher for free-roaming location-based (LB) VR titles.

More interesting is the announcement that along with the split, Vertigo Games will launch an arcade version of Arizona Sunshine this August entitled Arizona Sunshine: LB VR Edition. The new version of Arizona Sunshine “offers an untethered LB VR experience that transports up to four players straight into the heart of the zombie apocalypse.” The game will also demonstrate how the technology can be implemented in large-scale location-based environments outside of the home. So yes, battling (virtual) zombies in a warehouse with your buddies will be a thing.

The number of VR arcades signed on for the venture clocks in at over 300 venues across 40 countries worldwide, with industry names such as Valve, SpringboardVR, VR Junkies and Private Label VR backing it.

But enough on that. Where can you actually play Arizona Sunshine: LB VR Edition? Next month at Gamescom, actually. At the ALTERNATE booth “with fully kitted out Vive Wireless Adapter and Vive Tracker technology and the latest VR weapon peripherals.”
