With Microsoft having unveiled Halo Infinite at this year’s E3 (which is due out next year), it’s been revealed that we’ll be getting a brand-new television show based on the franchise, as well!

Today, Showtime announced that they’ve ordered a season of 10 episodes, with the working title simply called HALO. Kyle Killen (Awake) will be serving as executive producer, writer and showrunner, while Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) will direct multiple episodes and also executive produce. The show will be produced by Showtime in association with Microsoft/343 Industries, along with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, with production starting in early 2019.

HALO is our most ambitious series ever, and we expect audiences who have been anticipating it for years to be thoroughly rewarded,” said David Nevins, President and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc. “In the history of television, there simply has never been enough great science fiction. Kyle Killen’s scripts are thrilling, expansive and provocative, Rupert Wyatt is a wonderful, world-building director, and their vision of HALO will enthrall fans of the game while also drawing the uninitiated into a world of complex characters that populate this unique universe.”

Longtime fans have wondered when the franchise would finally make the leap to the small (or big) screen. The tie-in web series to Halo 4 entitled Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn was meant to be a step towards a film, with Neill Blomkamp directing. That ultimately never came to fruition. And before that, there was 2010’s Halo Legends, but that wasn’t exactly a hit, either (mixing anime and Halo seemed kind of odd from the start). No word yet on casting, so time to start your speculating!
