Drew Goddard Comments On That “Cloverfield Sequel” J.J. Abrams Recently Teased

At CinemaCon back in April, Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams confirmed that the upcoming Overlord is actually *not* part of the Cloverfield Cinematic Universe, while also teasing a future project under that umbrella. Specifically, Abrams noted that a dedicated Cloverfield sequel” is in the works, implying a true, from-the-ground-up sequel to the ’08 movie.

Speaking with Slash Film this week, Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, Bad Times at the El Royale) was asked about the mysterious film Abrams teased at CinemaCon, assuring that he’s not actively working on anything Cloverfield related at this time… but he’s leaving the door open for future possibilities.

I heard about that. I’m certainly not currently writing or directing it, but I also wouldn’t rule anything out,” Goddard told the site. “Look, I love that universe. I love J.J. I love [director] Matt [Reeves]. I think we all feel like we want to get the band back together eventually, so…
