Hey, here’s a kinda-sorta glimpse of how Momoa would’ve looked as Draven.

We told you earlier this week that director Corin Hardy (The Nun) and star Jason Momoa have both exited Sony’s reboot of The Crow, which was set to begin filming in the coming weeks ahead of an October 2019 release. Reportedly, Sony was getting ready to exit as the film’s distributor, leading Hardy and Momoa to cut ties as well.

For now, it would seem, the planned reboot is entirely dead in the water.

Momoa chimed in on Instagram yesterday to express his heartbreak about the project falling apart (though he still vows to play Eric Draven… eventually), and now Hardy has sent out a simple tweet of his own this afternoon. Along with a “broken heart” emoji, Hardy shared a photo of he and Momoa presumably taken during pre-production.

What makes the photo special is that Momoa is decked out in Crow makeup…

Hardy also released a statement on Instagram:

“I knew from the off, that the idea of making a new version of The Crow was never going to be for everyone, because it is a beloved film. And I say that as someone in love with it myself. But I poured everything I had into the last 3.5 years of work, to try & create something which honoured what the Crow stood for; from James O’Barr’s affecting graphic novel, to Alex Proyas’s original movie, with great respect to Brandon Lee and with the desire to make something bold and new, that myself, as an obsessive fan, could be proud of. And with Jason Momoa, and my amazing team of artists & film-makers, we came SO close. But sometimes, when you love something so much, you have to make hard decisions. And yesterday, deciding it was time to let go of this dark & emotional dream project, was the hardest decision of all.

Buildings burn, people die, but real love is forever.”
