Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes’ A Quiet Place (read our review out of SXSW) keeps silencing the competition. After being bumped last weekend by New Line Cinema’s Rampage, the John Krasinski-directed horror flick continues to make noise and is once again box office champion! In its third week of release, A Quiet Place has earned an estimated $22M for a grand total of $132M here in the States. As of this writing, international sits at $74.8M for a worldwide total of $207M on just a $17M reported budget. This is a massive success and it still hasn’t released in China!

As for the Brad Peyton-directed video game adaptation Rampage (read our review), which features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and a trio of enormous monsters, it’s added another $21M for $66M domestic gross and is now sitting at $283 worldwide! With a $120M budget, it’s going to take one more strong weekend to push this out of the friend zone and into profits, which seems more than likely as of this writing.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare (read our review) continues to quietly stack its winnings. Even though it was critically-panned, it’s still managed to do some damage to the box office and accounts for $7.8M this weekend for $30M domestic and $38M worldwide (international numbers are still not reported) on just a $3.5M reported budget. This small film is already a success.

Recounting last week’s revelation: horror accounts for $51M of the box office this weekend.

Updating numbers as they arrive. Thanks to ERC Box Office for their reporting.
