Dark Souls fans waiting for the remaster that’s set to hit the Switch will unfortunately have to wait longer than the original May 25th release date.
On Bandai Namco UK’s Twitter page, the company posted that the release of the Switch version will be delayed to the Summer 2018. This also includes the upcoming Solaire of Astora amiibo. When asked why the delay, Bandai Namco responded the delay is “purely development”, and that the new release timing gives the dev team more time to tweak the port. Fortunately for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players, the release date for those versions is still set for May 25th.
In addition, when asked about the network test for the Switch version (which is to test the servers to see if they can handle the load), Bandai Namco responded that the network test will still be happening, although it too is being pushed back until a new release date has been confirmed. After that, the test will go ahead.
Obviously, delays suck, but hopefully the extra development time will give the game the polish it needs. We’ve seen what Bethesda was able to crank out with their Switch port of DOOM, so the benchmark is there.
